Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue receives donation of blankets

Blue Toby Sustainable Pet Products is proud to announce our 2025 donation of over 30 warm blankets to Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue

Blue Toby Founder Linda Brent delivers blankets to dogs in need

I chose Rainbow Bridge for our blanket donation this year after hearing about their important work helping dogs that no one else wants.

I met founder Terri Atkinson and her husband David at their home in Middlesex, North Carolina where they care for 21 small elderly dogs. It was one of the most amazing days I have experienced! The clamoring dogs were so happy to meet us, covering me with doggie kisses and filling me with the joy that they so freely gave. One was missing a leg, one an eye, many had no teeth. Each of these older dogs had a story, a personality, and more love to give. Seeing how they were thriving under Terri’s tender care, it was shocking to consider that these older dogs were considered unadoptable by other organizations.

The dogs enjoyed some of the blankets during our visit, and the Nap Noodle was immediately claimed by a sweet doggie named Petey.

Rainbow Bridge saves the dogs most in need of care

Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue is a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable animals in our community. With an unwavering commitment to dogs in need, they specialize in rescuing and rehabilitating older, ill, and special-needs dogs that are often overlooked in traditional shelter settings. Their dedicated team provides essential medical care, hospice support, and a loving environment, ensuring that every dog experiences dignity and comfort, regardless of their age or health status. Their success lies in their ability to see the value in every life, successfully placing many "unadoptable" seniors into loving forever homes.

Terri Atkinson began rescuing dogs in 2011, and along with her husband David, has saved hundreds of dogs with serious needs. Recognizing that many seriously ill dogs were overlooked by traditional rescue groups, she organized Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue as a nonprofit in 2021. The organization is committed to giving dogs with chronic illness, terminal diagnoses, or old age the dignity, comfort and love they deserve.

“Providing comfort is at the very heart of what we do, and these blankets from Blue Toby mean more than most people realize,” said Terri. “Many of our dogs come to us fragile, frightened, or in pain. Something as simple as a soft, warm blanket can help them feel safe—often for the first time in a long while. We are deeply grateful to Blue Toby for this generous gift and for recognizing the dignity and love that every senior and medically fragile dog deserves.”

Blue Toby focuses on giving back

We built Blue Toby to make a difference. For us, success is measured not just by products sold, but by the positive impact made for animals in need. Every pet bed purchased results in a blanket being donated to rescued pets. By donating blankets, we aim to provide physical warmth and a sense of security to the dogs currently under the care of Rainbow Bridge.

At Blue Toby, our deep love for pets is the driving force behind everything we create. I have such immense admiration for the difficult but beautiful work being done at Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue. They provide dignity and love to dogs who need it most. It is an honor to support their mission and to know that these blankets will provide comfort to these deserving dogs while they recover and wait for forever homes.
